Biography
Lord have mercy on your soul, for these Drawer Devils are coming to get ya!
2017 is in desperate need of this Dallas-based band of no-counts' brew of bruising psychedelic garage-punk. Formed in late 2015, the band features a drunk-tank lineup of garage noise veterans. Drummer Hank Tosh (Deadites, A Feast of Snakes, Ape Hangars), bassist Ryan Copeland (Ape Hangars, DDA), guitarist/vocalist Britt Tucker (IBU, Greasy Cranks) and guitarist Mike McHenry (Neurotones), bring together influences from rock 'n' roll's weirdo side, and translate them the only way they know how. LOUDLY. The misspelling of Dead Moon's "Psychedelic Nightmare" isn't a mistake; this is Psycho-delic rock music! It's a bad trip down the back alleys of booze-dripped punk dives and cheap motels. It's a dark and lonely road where all hitchhikers must be avoided, as they are most surely potential serial killers.
Hail Satin! is Drawer Devils debut audio offering to the gods of good taste. It's a hazy, jukebox-lit nightmare, a slice of fuzz 'n' feedback stomp and shout madness that takes no prisoners. Whereas some bands might do a covers album midway through their existence to show their "roots", or because the wheels of creativity have slowed, Drawer Devils have taken the classic garage band route, combing their record collections and choosing material that makes it quite clear where they're coming from. It's the twisted world of '80s & '90s garage, trashy blues-punk, and psycho rock of the aforementioned Dead Moon, Scientists ("Swampland"), The Beguiled ("Screamin' Rummy"), Scratch Acid ("Greatest Gift"), Chrome Cranks ("We're Going Down") and Oblivians ("Trouble") that pumps the blood through their brains. The cover of Syd Barrett-era Pink Floyd's "Lucifer Sam" isn't so much of an example of punks experimenting with hallucinogens, as it could just be an attempt to pick up Goth chicks. No one is really sure.
The real meat, and Texans know about good meat, is the promising original prime-cuts here. "The Way That You Are" is a swell BBQ boogie with a side of blues-harp wailing, "Feelin' Low" evokes the heartbreak that the last drop from a whiskey bottle just can't fix, while "Space Ghosts" is like a midnight drive-in movie about a lost soul with nowhere to go, who's just stolen the Devil's motorcycle. This ride Drawer Devils is on is apocalyptic and only getting started.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Drawer Devils "Hail Satin!" LP - 4/20/17
Dallas, Texas, April 20, 2017-- If dark, psychedelic rock collided headfirst with cacophonous, surf-tinged punk noise, the wreckage would be Dallas's own Drawer Devils. Comprised of four rock and roll lifers, they want to fill your ears with a wall of riff-heavy and slightly ominous sonic blasts. Taking cues from artists ranging from The Sonics to The Melvins, the Drawer Devils have made a name for themselves in Texas since their formation in 2015. Drummer Hank Tosh, formerly of Feast of Snakes, guitarist Mike McHenry, bassist Ryan Copland and guitarist/frontman Britt Tucker came together with one common goal in mind: to create inspiring signatures and songs that sounds like an unholy marriage of Raw Power-era Stooges and The Nuggets boxed set of lost garage rock gems. Bringing wild showmanship and memorable riffs to the table, front man Britt Tuckers leads the band through blistering and raucous live at iconic local venues such as Three Links and Lee Harvey's. The band entered the studio in late 2016 to capture the visceral energy and controlled chaos of those live shows. Recorded at Cloudland Recording Studio, with producers Britt Robisheux and Robby Rux at the helm, the band's upcoming album Hail Satin! perfectly commits the excitement of a live Drawer Devils show to wax while also including aural treats for those who like to throw on a pair of headphones. Released by Dreamy Life Records on April 20th and available on vinyl as well as a download, the band will be performing live throughout Texas in support of the new record. Reviews
From CentralTrack.com's Song of the Week:
"Drawer Devils – “Screaming Rummy.”
RIYL: Hailing satin.
What else you should know: This cover from The Beguiled’s 1993 album Blue Dirge is our first taste of new Fort Worth punk trio Drawer Devils. It’s a garage-y take that strips away some of the surf influence of the original and puts just enough polish on it to make the effort worth the while. A promising first impression to be sure. "

The Drawer Devils' "Hail Satin!"
Drummer Hank Tosh has an illustrious history in Dallas garage rock, with stints in the Deadites, Stingrays, Gospel Swingers, A Feast of Snakes, and Bipolar Express under his belt. More recently, he kicked the traps behind the instrumental Ape Hangars until he got the urge to do "some more hard edged stuff -- I guess we could call it heavy psychedelic punk." With Ape Hangars bassist Ryan Coplen, Britt Tucker from the Jesus Lizard-esque IBU on rhythm guitar and vocals, and L.A. surf band vet Mike McHenry on lead guitar, Hank formed the Drawer Devils -- a moniker extrapolated from a line in a John Lee Hooker song. The band wisely chose to record in Fort Worth, at Cloudland, with Britt Robisheaux and Robby Rux co-producing.
Their debut full-length for Dreamy Life, Hail Satin!, is a mix of originals and covers of band faves. "Screaming Rummy," originally by the '80s Cali outfit the Beguiled, kicks the door open with an explosion of garage grease in the grand style, replete with pounding beat, stinging riffage, and howling vocalismo. "Swampland," from Aussie post-punks Scientists, drags rockabilly through an oozing morass of reverb and tremelo. Dead Moon's "Psychodelic Nightmare" ups the dementia quotient a few notches, while "Lucifer Sam" seethes with menace only hinted at by the Syd-era Pink Floyd. Among the 'riginals, standouts include "Feelin' Low," with lyrics and a cadence inspired by a dream of Hank's, and "SpaceGhosts," which represents a whole new level of heaviness. There's stylistic continuity here, but within that, there's a lot of variety. With this release and an all-original EP set to follow, these Drawer Devils are a crew to watch.
